What is Droam mobile internet?

Droam helps you to avoid high data roaming costs – in some cases even up to 90%! When you rent a Droam, you know what your costs will be in advance: no surprises afterwards. Droam allows you to connect up to 5 devices to the internet at the same time. That means your family or fellow travellers can save on roaming costs as well!

How does it work?

Droam is a mobile, wireless router that creates a Wi-Fi access point. Wireless internet, wherever you are, just like at home. Instead of connecting your mobile to the internet directly, you connect with your Droam via Wi-Fi. This way, you avoid high data roaming costs that you would incur with your own mobile telecom provider.

Can I get online everywhere?

Droam is dependent on local mobile phone networks. Depending on coverage by these networks you can get connected everywhere.

How many devices can I connect to my Droam?

Droam allows up to 5 different devices at the same time. That means you, but also your fellow travellers can save on their data roaming. For example: you can be online with 2 laptops, 2 iphones and an iPad – all at the same time. Even when you’re on the road.

Size and dimensions

Droam is smaller and lighter than most mobile phones. It measures 48.6 x 95.5 x 13.7 mm and weighs 90 grams. That’s about half the size of a deck of playing cards. The Wi-Fi signal reaches 10 meters in open spaces.

Is Droam really cheaper?

Rental period

You rent a Droam for the length of your stay abroad. It doesn’t matter if that is 1 day, 7 days or 5 months. If you’re planning to stay abroad for a longer period or going to different countries during a trip, just let us know. Almost everything is possible. Transparant costs and no suprises after your trip.

How fast is the connection?

Connection speeds may vary depending on local circumstances, but can reach 7.2Mbps for downloads and 5.6Mbps for uploads. The connection you get with Droam is always safer than free or open Wi-Fi networks and almost always faster.

Does Droam work with my mobile phone?

Yes! Droam works with virtually all mobile telephones that can connect to the internet such as an iPhone, Blackberry, HTC or Nokia. Droam is especially suitable to use with your mobile phone. When you are connected to the internet using Droam’s WiFi signal you can still be reached on your own number. It is not necessary to switch SIM cards in order to benefit from cheap mobile internet.

We offer a rate that you probably cannot compare to the rates your own provider charges. Please visit our prices page that offers a completely transparent price plan that will enable you to stay connected whilst abroad! .


Order and return

Order and return

As soon as we have received your order and payment we schedule the delivery of your Droam. Please be aware that your payment verification might take a few days when you order. Droam fits through your mailbox so there is no need to be at your delivery address to receive your package. We deliver Droam a minimum of 1 day before you depart. Payment of Droam starts on the first day you use Droam, or 3 days after we send it to you. After which only actual use will be invoiced.

How much is the deposit ?

When you rent a Droam, you pay a security deposit of €150,-. We ask this security deposit to cover our risk in case of loss, theft or damage of a Droam. As soon as we receive your Droam after use, the security deposit (minus the costs for rent and use of Droam) will be transferred back to your account. The deposit can be paid into our (Dutch) bankaccount, number 1591.91.408 | Droam B.V. For international transfers you will also need our IBAN and BIC code: IBAN NL81 RABO 0159 1914 08 BIC RABONL2U. Should you prefer PayPal for your payment our address is phillip@droam.nl.

When will my deposit be returned?

As soon as we receive your Droam, we will check your data usage and process your invoice. We will return an amount if applicable or charge you for the remaining costs.

Shipping charges?

Please be aware different shipping rates apply should you want to receive your Droam abroad, i.e. not in the Netherlands. Currently we have a beneficial price agreement with our shipping agent, FedEx. However, at this time our order system does not accommodate this extra cost. You will receive a specific offer with a complete quote including shipping.

When will I receive my invoice?

As soon as we receive your Droam we will process the invoice and send it to you via email .

What exactly will I receive in my Droam package?

Droam fits through your mailbox. You receive an envelope that contains:
The Droam device, one cable, a car charger and a regular charger. You also receive a manual that contains our support phone number and email address. Further to these items you also receive a return envelop so you can return Droam free of charge.

Do I have to pay shipping charges?

If you want to receive Droam in the Netherlands, it will not cost you extra. If you want to receive your Droam outside the Netherlands, you will be requested to pay shipping charges. We will send your package with FedEx.


Data usage

Can I use more than 50mb per day?

Yes! For short trips, mostly using your smartphone, we advise Droam50. If you plan to be abroad for more than 10 days or if you want to use more data, we advise Droam1000. With Droam1000 you can use one gigabyte per 30 days.

What is a data limit?

Droam mobile internet uses a data limit. A data limit is a specific amount of data you can use.

How can I check my data limit and usage?

Login to MyDroam, but make sure you are online using Droam you can use this tool to see your data usage. You can also download applications directly onto your smartphone, laptop and computer that track your data usage. Make sure you add all the different data limits to verify your amount.

How do I use my data limit?

Your data usage depends on what you do online. In the table below we show some examples and how much MB’s you use. (these are averages)

How can I control my data usage?

With a data limit it is important you control your data usage. Make sure you turn off your roaming on your smartphone. Droam makes use of WiFi, not of roaming. You can also save on data usage by turning off push notifications, automatic updates and synchs. Also be aware of how you use the internet, movies use more data than web pages for instance.


Support whilst using Droam

Droam does not turn on

Is the lamp indicating the battery status red? Connect your Droam to the charger and try to turn it on again. Fully charging the device will take approximately 4 hours, if Droam is not being used at the time.
If the battery indicator light is green, but you still cannot get a connection, make sure you have gone through all the steps as indicated in the instructions. If you are not able to get online, please contact us through our support department, send a text message or call: +31 6 23 17 95 06 or e-mail to support@droam.nl.

The connection is not made right away

If your Droam does not connect to the internet right away, even after following the instructions, please restart Droam, turn off the device, as well as the devices you want to connect to Droam, and turn them on again after a few minutes. Don’t forget to also press and hold the ‘connect’ button for 2 seconds after all the lights are lit up. Still no connection? The connection has been lost

It could occur that, whilst travelling, Droam loses the connection. The M light will be burning blue, make sure you press and hold the connect button for 2 seconds to reconnect to the internet.


After using Droam

Why do I have to return the device within 2 days?

Just like renting a car, Droam has to be returned after use. We expect you to do this within two days after your rental period. We can verify your use and reconfigure Droam for the next user. If you return Droam after these two days, we will charge you a late fee.

How do I return Droam?

In the envelop you will receive from Droam you will find a return envelop. You can post this envelop through the normal mail boxes, and you will not need any postage. Returning Droam is free of charge.
